DE BOLEX 803
Renaissance - noun The revival of European art under the influence of classical models
Is this of the most beautiful motorcycles from a custom house? Fuck it. This might be one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever? To think it started as a Ducati Scrambler - the very same bike we have sat in our garage as the beginnings of our first ever motorcycle project. This may make us a little biased but hey everyone is - yes this work of art by British based DeBolex engineering started life as Ducati’s marketing experiment the Scrambler.
What is nice is that Ducati are embracing a world of modification and individualism which has been born from companies like DeBolex and so often frowned upon by the manufactures. Ducati have obviously seen what is happening with motorcycle culture across the globe. With so many custom bikes available and so many shops willing to create bespoke and individual prices without needing a re-mortgage. This kind of level of bespoke modification and craftsmanship which is regular seen in the bike shed classifieds - in the car industry would need spending of 6 figures.
It can be seen as cynical but from a manufactures point of view you can see the money being spent on bolt on parts from aftermarket specialists this money can be spent in house on approved parts which come with guarantees. What I like with Ducati is that although they would prefer you modify your scrambler with approved bolt on bits, it is clear from there Tumblr blog - yes the Scrambler has not only an official Tumblr blog but a mother fudging radio Station! - that Ducati embrace all kinds of modification and to prove this they have had bikes by DeBolex - the 1100 Cafe Racer and at the complete other end of the spectrum the epically modified Earl Motorcycles Alaskan adventure bike based on the Scrambler Desert Sled, feature on there stands at international shows. This also highlights just how versatile the Scrambler platform is,.
Anyhow back to this master piece - its red which I love, the best Ducati’s are red. It has a touch of baby blue which is bold but gosh it works. A bespoke faring made in one piece by hand from sheets of metal rolled and beaten using methods all but extinct. A perfectly executed exhaust, and a exquisitely detailed seat unit. I could go on listing all the things that got us so excited in the office but you should just watch the video of the bike being walked through with the builder at the Bike Shed and you should definitely take a look around the DeBolex website just be prepared to fall in love with something you cant have - most of there builds carry a subtle little 1/1.
